"Flimping"
How come companies like Eastcoast and Blueline claim to be professional and yet they allow "flimpers" to work from their offices with their livery on ? We all know who the "flimpers" are, i dont mean the odd pick up after a drop-off, i mean the blatant ones. Maybe the Private Hire Operator should be responsible for their drivers actions
how about:-
if a driver gets caught flimping the office licence holder gets a warning
3 warnings and they are investigated by the Taxi Licensing Department
4 warnings and they are called in front of the Licensing Sub Committee
5 warnings and they loose their Operators Licence !!!!!!
If Operators sacked the "flimpers" (Rank Taxis used to do it), then the "flimping" would stop.

Re: "Flimping"
Why should the companies care? Why should the council care. Hacks are just a thorn in everyone's side. It's common knowledge they all want a one tier system. The office owners to get more rent and the council to make their life even easier than it already is. Never mind that the Hackney Carriage trade has been around, providing a service since the 17th century!!

The big Companies would'nt sack the flimpers would they??, lets be honest the operators are so desperate for money, the fuel crisis has hit them so much has'nt it???, no one is coming in to the trade anymore, the Council will not let them take on out of town cars, how can they afford to sack drivers???????
IN OUR OUR BLOODY DREAMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

out of town cars
central enthusiast, are you saying the council have stopped any further out of town cars appearing in North Tyneside, if so, thats got to be good news, i hadn't heard anything about it.
Point taken re sacking of drivers by office owners, but how can they claim to be professional (as they make themselves out to be) if they are happy and willing to use drivers who flout the law ? I wonder if its a case of.... lets appear to be professional to the public and ferk knows or cares what goes on behind our back.

Just got in from a long shift, and actually worked Whitley Bay for an hour or two... i noticed a distinct lack of PH, out of town Hacks etc. parked outside of Eden, maybe the message is getting through at last... that they might get caught. Sadly, i did see a "central taxis" private hire picking up illegaly, just before the traffic lights at the Gunner pub.

It was a busy night for some of the offices, so the flimp gang may have made their cash honestly!, anyway a Briardene car blatantly flimped last night at the HSBC, the Driver lowered his window and shouted "you lot are no angels", did'nt know if that was referring to the great "Central" or the car being a Hack!.
A Newcastle Hack also picked up at the side door of the Townhouse (The Ship), but you are right there, no flimpers at the bottom end of Whitley!
